Dear Editor: Thank you for reporting on the Ouray County commissioners' public hearing regarding Red Mountain Alpine Lodge’s Special Use Permit renewal. County staff and Commissioner Michelle Nauer noted how challenging public hearings have become for BOCC and staff, however I will note that just one year ago, it was the public that brought 19 violations of RMAL’s permit to the BOCC’s attention— violations that went unnoticed due to a lack of oversight, inspections or accountability.
