The story of the classic “Steel Magnolias” is coming to the stage in Ouray County this week, brought to the community by Minerva West Theatre Company.
Set in a small-town beauty parlor in Louisiana, the play shows the relationship between six women and how they cope with serious life situations, through a fog of hairspray and humor.
The balance of love, loss and friendships provides a backdrop for the story line, which some may remember from the 1989 comedy drama film of the same name.
The play stars local actors, including Amanda Gabrielson, Ruth Higdon, Marita Robinson, Kate Rolston, Andrea Sokolowski and Vanessa Wawrzynoqicz, directed by Stephen Laster.
The play runs from Feb. 27 to March 2, and from March 6-9. Showtimes are at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and 3 p.m. matinee shows are available on Sundays. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for students, available at the door or online at minervawest.org.
