Ridgway won’t hold town council elections this year since there were not more applicants for candidates than the number of open seats.
The town received three nomination petitions, from current councilors Polly Kroger and Beth Lakin and one from current Ridgway Planning Commission Chairperson Michelle Montague.
Instead of an election, the council is expected to appoint Montague. She will take the seat of Mayor Pro Tern Russ Meyer, who did not submit a nomination petition for another term. Montague previously applied to fill two council vacancies created by councilors who left their positions early, in 2020 and 2021, but was not selected eithertime.
This will be Kroger’s second term on the council, after initially being elected in 2022. Lakin will begin herfourth term, as she was first elected in 2019.
Terms for Councilors Kevin Grambley, Terry Schuyler, Josey Scoville and Mayor John Clark expire next year.
The councilors are expected to be sworn in during the council’s regular meeting on April 9.
