Dear Editor: The decision to bypass a thorough four-month vetting process in selecting Ouray’s new police chief raises serious concerns about our community’s commitment to professionalism and fairness. After months of structured evaluations led by experts hired by the city of Ouray, it is troubling that the final decision was influenced by citizens with preconceived notions. This includes recent letters to the editor by Kate Kissingford and actions by an individual who circulated anonymous flyers prior to the Jan. 16 meet-and-greet. Did these individuals — or other “concerned citizens” — take the time to understand the comprehensive vetting process underway since October before voicing their objections?
