Dear Editor: I would like to express my gratitude for the remarkable act of kindness demonstrated by Jay and Jackie Lauderdale, and Cat and Barthold Lichtenbelt in making a nearly one-million-dollar donation toward the purchase of the Swiss Village Mobile Home Park. For months, the possibility that this property could be sold—displacing many of our neighbors—weighed heavily on Ouray as a whole, especially on the residents of Swiss Village. Thanks to these compassionate individuals, we now see firsthand what a united effort can accomplish when it stands by those who help make our town so special.

Swiss Village has long been integral to Ouray’s identity, offering an affordable place to live for people who contribute to the vibrant character of our community. By stepping in to help secure these homes, the Lauderdales and Lichtenbelts have not only provided financial relief but also shown the profound impact that caring for one another can have on our neighbors.
As we enter 2025, the Lauderdales’ and Lichtenbelts’ selfless dedication reminds us that, by standing together, we can protect and uplift all those who call Ouray home. Their compassion truly captures the spirit of our community.
