November 8, 1974 – Clyde Peppin of Ouray fell asleep at the wheel of his vehicle coming home from a night shift at the Idarado Mine and struck three other cars parked on Main Street last Friday morning. Peppin rounded the curve coming into Ouray at about 5:10 a.m., crossed the centerline of the street and struck a parked Volkswagen bus, tipping it over onto its side. Peppin's Jeep Wagoneer continued on and struck another vehicle, also parked, head on, which in turn was forced backwards into a third vehicle, parked directly behind it. Peppin was uninjured. Damage to all four vehicles was in excess of $3,000.
