Dear Editor: I happened to be talking with incumbent Ouray County Commissioner Lynn Padgett shortly after the rain/flooding event that occurred on Aug. 5. Being relatively new to Ridgway, I was not even aware of who she was. I was telling her about being flooded out of my campsite up County Road 7. She responded by telling me in detail about the infrastructure damage throughout the county, the short term consequences and the long term financial impacts of the calamity. She then went on to talk about the process of declaring a disaster and then qualifying for government funding to make things right. I was just trying to tell her about my friends’ tent getting washed away.
