Dear Editor: The election for county commissioner between Lynn Padgett and Michael Perkovich presents us with several important contrasts. Many jurisdictions around the country have learned the hard way about the folly of electing real estate development and construction interests to such elected positions because they are the ultimate deciders on land use issues. Mr. Perkovich owns a construction company, so the potential conflict of interest should be obvious. Conversely, Ms. Padgett has been a passionate advocate for keeping our beautiful valleys and alpine areas free of rampant development. We live in one of the truly amazing places and your vote could determine whether it remains amazing into the future.
