FAWNING OVER YOU
This unusually colored fawn pictured here with its twin is called a piebald deer, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife terrestrial biologist Alyssa Kircher. The white pattern is a result of a genetic anomaly where some of the deer’s pigment cells cannot produce melanin. Though the state agency does not keep official records of animals with this condition, Kircher said it’s incredibly rare in mule deer. These twins were born earlier this year on Log Hill Mesa.
