August monsoon continues year of extremes
Last Sunday, Ouray’s wet August weather definitively broke the old precipitation record for the month, 5.28 inches, set during the serious flood year of 1982, when both Portland and Cascade Creeks caused memorable damage to the city’s flumes and neighborhoods. By Monday morning, the new record was 5.63 inches, more than twice the average for a month that normally is the wettest of the year (2.70 inches).
