Dear Editor: We see that there is some discussion on where a solar grid should be located in Ridgway. It appears that rooftop installs are not in favor. Many folks are in favor of solar; but not on my neighbors' roof? However, rather than disturb vacant land, we suggest that solar installs be placed over parking lots. There are several parking lots in Ridgway including the Ridgway library, town hall, Frontier Park, the high school, etc. that would suffi ce. Locating solar panels over parking areas serves two purposes: 1. No vacant land is disturbed and 2. The solar panels provide shade in the summer, keeping parked cars cool and also keeps snow off in the winter. The panels do need a slope to shed snow that would have to be considered during install.
