August 1, 1974 – The Ouray School Board announced Tuesday morning that the board has hired a new superintendent for Ouray School. Wayne M. Nash will be arriving in Ouray Aug. 1 to take up his duties. He comes from Hugo, Colorado, where he has been superintendent for the past 15 years. Prior to that Nash served as superintendent from 1949-51 in Maiden Rock, Wisconsin; as superintendent from 1952-55 in Idalia, Colorado; from 1958-59 in Akron, Colorado; and from 1959 to the present time in Hugo. Among his other accomplishments, Nash has during his administrative years written a special education program called “Continuous Progress,” was director of special education under new legislation, written a federal program for Titles I, II and II, written a vocational business program, organized a work study program for the Hugo School, and started initial contacts for the nursing program at El Paso Community College in El Paso County, Colorado. Under his leadership, a new school building was erected in Hugo.
