May 23, 1974 – Ouray School Superintendent Daniel Kerr has resigned. School Board President Rick River read Kerr's letter of resignation at a public meeting this week. The public session was over in just a few minutes. The board was first in consultation in a very lengthy executive session with Kerr and attorneys. Kerr's letter stated that his resignation is conditional upon payment from the board of $5,900 which is three months' severance plus payment for accumulated vacation time and sick leave. This is the culmination of several fulminating weeks and a number of public meetings since April 24, at which time a petition signed by 131 residents was presented to the board asking for Kerr's resignation.
