The U.S. Forest Service plans on igniting a prescribed burn on 112 acres next week northeast of Ridgway, to reduce future wildfire risk as well as improve habitat for wildlife. Smoke will likely be visible from Highway 550 and from Ridgway, as the fuels catch fire. But the smoke is not expected to persist and officials are asking locals to not call 911.
