May 3, 2002-Jan. 19, 2024
Noah James Newman, 21, died by suicide on January 19, 2024.
To say he will be missed is an immense understatement.
Born May 3, 2002, in Las Vegas, Nevada to Jennifer (Adamski Lydon) Sagran and Victor William Newman, Noah experienced a childhood full of travel and adventure, living in some of the most beautiful places: the Western Slope of Colorado, San Diego, the Finger Lakes region of New York, southern Utah. Having an inquisitive and radiant mind, he attended a program called the Center for Bright Kids at the Colorado School of Mines, from the ages of 7-16 and found some of his happiest memories were made there. After moving to Ridgway, Colorado in 2014, Noah attended Ridgway High School, graduating in the class of 2019.
Noah was an incredibly fast learner and a patient teacher, he enjoyed working with children and was employed at the Voyager Youth Program in Ridgway, for years. He had a profound respect for the natural world and loved being outside exploring the mountains. He was hugely connected to nature and spirituality and displayed an insatiable curiosity and adventurously spontaneous energy when he was not weighed down by the intense depression he found himself battling. He treasured his solitude and enjoyed spending time with small groups of people to whom he felt he could relate. Noah loved discovering and attaching himself to certain pieces of music. He had a habit of finding a few songs that resonated with him and listening to them repeatedly.
His favorite music genres were contemporary jazz, indie soul, indietronica, permanent wave, and modern, classic, and psychedelic rock.
He will be lovingly remembered for his brilliance, his genuine kindness, his talent with athletics, in particular with swimming, skiing, and jujitsu, his extraordinary musicality (his favorite instrument to play was the baritone saxophone, but he also greatly enjoyed playing the keyboard, bass guitar, saxophone, and both electric and acoustic guitar), his skill with and love of video games, his expansive lexicon, his creativity, his compassion, his goofiness, his tenacity in the face of existential dread, and his passion for learning about and expanding his awareness of the world around us, especially from the perspectives of mathematics, physics, philosophy, art, music, astronomy, biology, psychology, and zoology.
Noah was a sublime source of intrigue, beauty, and light, although he was rarely able to see himself in such a positive manner. His loss brings an overwhelming heaviness to the hearts of his friends and family. He is survived by his mother, Jennifer Sagran; his dad, Richard Sagran; grandmother, Linda Garland; uncle, John Adamski (Michele); cousin, Emily; and his friends and loved ones.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Noah on May 4th from 12-2pm MST in Hartwell Park in Ridgway, Colorado.
May 3rd is Noah’s 22nd birthday.
