Dear Editor: The letter published in the Feb. 22-28 edition under the headline “The perpetuation of rape culture,” by Robyn Cascade, mischaracterized a statement of mine made in a letter published the previous week. Ignoring 86% of the statement’s words, and their context, Cascade asserted I was attacking MEND, prompted perhaps by the Plaindealer’s headline: “Tone of MEND’s letter about rape was insulting." (An interesting choice given my letter was raising concerns with the Plaindealer’s reporting and fact-checking.) Indeed, I characterized MEND as “an otherwise truly admirable undertaking”, something Cascade … and the Plaindealer … somehow missed.
