Dear Editor: One of the subtle multi-use recreational perks in Ouray is the North Corridor trail system. Its spring, summer and fall uses of hiking, biking and running readily adapt to wintertime activities of cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and walking. To honor the efforts of the groomers who carve the tracks on one side for skiers and lay the groundwork for leveled sections suitable for snowshoeing and walking on the other, it seems prudent that information be available to our citizens and visitors to gently remind recreationists that skiers should have access to the groomed tracks and that walkers (with or without pets) and snowshoe enthusiasts can take advantage of the flattened surfaces for their enjoyment. Also, it would be good to emphasize that dog owners need to pick up after their pets. Perhaps some strategically placed signage on or near both bridges that cross the river, plus publications and visitor's guide brochures, along with business website bullet-points could emphasize such protocol to enhance the trail experience for all concerned.
