Dear Editor: In all my years, I’ve never seen a Plaindealer like last week’s. So many emotions, and so many different opinions. In light of that, I’m writing to urge us to pull together as a community. Did the editors publish way more detail about the alleged rape than they needed to, abusing the victim’s privacy? Yes, definitely; they’ve admitted that, apologized, and said they’ve learned a big lesson. Did Mr. Choate make a huge mistake, that completely blew up in his face? He sure did, and arguing about his motives serves no purpose now. One writer stated that Ouray Police Chief Jeff Wood should step down in recognition of his apparent lapses in allowing the alleged crime to take place in his own home while he slept upstairs. While I agree that it would be the right thing to do under the circumstances, ultimately it’s up to Mr. Wood to answer to the Ouray community.
