Dear Editor: During these tough economic times, my hat's off to Kathy Elmont. She spearheaded the request for city/county officials to lower the mill levy. This will keep money in everybody's pocket. She was ahead of this request before the election, before Governor Polis called a special session and urged local officials to do more by reducing the tax rate. So far, the City Council has agreed to reduce its general fund mill levy. Will the county officials follow, or, have they already spent the 54% increase in property tax revenue, $1.5 million? We will find out when their budgets are ratified in January.
