Dear Editor: With the news that the lease at the Beaumont for the Ouray Bookshop will not be renewed, we see another example of newcomers in Ouray wanting to change things. Newcomers to Ouray always exclaim how they love Ouray, then after buying into Ouray, they want changes. The recent article in the Plaindealer said the new owners of the Beaumont want to bring it back to its glory days. The bookshop is already a glorious asset to this community, serving the needs of locals — and tourists. If the Ouray Bookshop goes away it will be a huge loss for our community — one that newcomers to Ouray will also feel. To force such a treasured asset and longtime successful business to close speaks volumes about what other changes these newcomers may envision.
