Dear Editor: I am not a resident of Ouray but have been visiting repeatedly since the early 1970s and have frequented the bookstore ever since it opened. It has been a hallmark of the very essence of Ouray since its inception: a warm-hearted, welcoming, unpretentious and delightfully unique venue and gathering place for anyone and everyone who walks in – longtime residents, newcomers, vacationers, workers, and those just passing through. It's a Main Street shop at the top of town in a historic hotel that dates back to the earliest days of the community, with a front door wide open each and every day of the week. Is there any better representation of one of the truly remarkable towns in the West? A local and independent bookstore, housing the endless stories of its colorful past, along with the fresh and creative and limitless voices of today, as we all imagine and fervently hope for a Ouray that will always be itself tomorrow.
