Trip across Divide reveals tale of two snowpacks
Winter 2022-23 slammed much of Colorado’s Western Slope with a remarkable five months (out of seven, so far) of below normal temperatures. A bonus of monotonous gray days, plentiful snow, and bountiful precipitation came with the package.
It’s not surprising that Ouray’s winter- weary inhabitants needed this April, even if current temperatures somewhat resemble those of March. As of the 25th, days average 50.8 degrees, nights 26.6 (April’s normal diurnal fluctuations are 54.4 and 29.8).
