Ridgway rental tax discussions rife with misperceptions
Dear Editor:
As owner/operators of two of Ridgway’s longest running short-term rentals (STRs), we were shocked to learn at the March 8 Town Council meeting that the town is considering increasing the lodging tax (on STRs only) from the current 3.5% to as much as 7% and instituting a new “excise tax,” again only on STRs, of as much as 15%. Combined with existing sales taxes of 9.05%, STRs would need to charge their guests taxes totaling over 31%! Let that sink in.
