Forest Service to close abandoned mines
The U.S. Forest Service is accepting public comment on a plan to close 22 inactive mine openings south of Ouray this summer.
The project, which is expected to take six to eight weeks to complete, will take place five to seven miles south of the city, at locations on U.S. Highway 550 and National Forest System Roads 886 (Corkscrew Road) and 887 (Grey Copper Road).
