Check the weather and the road conditions. If heavy rain is forecast or happened recently, you should consider postponing. I also suspect avoiding the heat of summer will be also important as there is no shade anywhere. The park has a campground that is great for tents or small rugged campers. Large RVs and camp trailers are not going to fit well. Lodging is best in nearby Bloomington, Aztec or Farmington. Also note that food and beverages are not available in the park so bring a picnic lunch.
