January 11, 1973 – Vern and Irene Wrye had been back home in Ouray only a short time when Vern discovered what appeared to be a homemade bomb in the basement of their Chipeta Theater Sunday. He contacted the Ouray Police Department, and Police Chief Roy Franz and Deputy Gilbert Martinez moved the object which was equipped with primer cord, blasting caps and taped together in a bundle.
