September 28, 1972 – A jury of six (four women, two men) awarded $25,000 to be paid by the County of Ouray to Wayland and David Phillips. The damage trial culminates years of arguments over an extension of County Road No. 5 to the National Forest boundary through the Wayland Phillips “Happy Hollow” property.
