The value of, and trouble with, TABOR
Dear Editor: Thanks, TABOR, I appreciate the refund I just got from the State of Colorado.
So, what is TABOR, and why the refund? In 1992, Colorado voters approved the TABOR amendment, or the Taxpayers Bill of Rights. This requires that tax increases can only be made by the vote of the people.
Seems logical, right? But in many states, the legislature can vote in any tax increase they feel like doing. And, in many areas, if your property valuation increases, your property tax automatically goes up....
