According to Ouray Ranger District Manager Dana Gardunio, proceeding with the Simms Mesa prescribed burn on May 16 was “(her) decision … based on the best information (she) had at the moment.” I felt certain somebody in Washington, D.C. must have made the decision and the local staff just shrugged their shoulders and did as ordered.
