Ouray County commissioners are prepared to recommend changing the name of Squaw Gulch to Hayden Gulch as part of a national effort to rename hundreds of geographical sites.

Commissioners discussed the name change during meetings on March 23 and April 5 and will try to meet with members of the Ute Mountain Ute and Southern Ute tribes on April 13 to discuss the history of the area and the name before submitting a final recommendation to the state.
