A 29-year-old man with ties to Ridgway died after he was caught and buried in an avalanche south of Telluride on Thursday, the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office said.

The body of Devin Overton was recovered from avalanche debris in the Poverty Gulch area south of Trout Lake, 13 miles south of Telluride, the sheriff’s office said. He had been snowboarding by himself in the backcountry when the avalanche happened, according to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center.
