U.S. Highway 550 over Red Mountain Pass reopened Friday afternoon after a nearly 72-hour closure triggered by a multi-day snowstorm and avalanche danger.

The Colorado Department of Transportation reopened the highway between Ouray and Silverton at 1 p.m. Crews performed avalanche mitigation all day Thursday and maintenance workers spent Thursday night and Friday morning removing snow.
