Ouray County commissioners approved a new commercial via ferrata on Gold Mountain last week, after more than three hours of public hearings.

County staff, as well as city and county planning commissioners, previously recommended approving the Gold King Expedition, a tour including hikes through mining ruins and a via ferrata on private land.

The new attraction is located on mining claims in the Alpine Zone, about a mile north of Ouray on Gold Mountain Trail, just east of Rotary Park.
