Bill would raise taxes on short-term rentals
A bill proposed by an Adams County legislator would raise property tax rates on some short-term rental units if passed, but would only affect owners who have more than two properties.
The draft bill, sponsored by Rep. Shannon Bird, a Democrat from Westminster, calls for categorizing “commercial short-term rental units” as lodging units, similar to hotels and motels, which are assessed at a 29% commercial rate. Currently, short-term rentals are taxed at the residential rate of 6.95%.
