A project intended to reduce wildfire risk and build habitat for wildlife near Ridgway is moving forward slowly, with some of the funding secured for the initial work.

At least $130,000 of the estimated $600,000 needed for the Baldy Mountain Landscape Resiliency and Habitat Improvement Project, located just east of Ridgway on public and private land, has been funded. The plans call for a mixture of controlled burns and mechanical treatments to reduce fuel loads.
