October 7, 1971 – Two escapes from the Roubideau Honor Camp at Delta, one considered dangerous, were captured in Ouray at 11 a.m. last Friday by officers from the camp, the Ouray and Montrose sheriff’s departments and the Ouray Police Department. According to Sheriff Art Dougherty, A.D. Bettis, 24, was serving out a sentence for assaulting an officer in an attempted escape from jail at Colorado Springs, and Thomas Allen Sparks, 20, had been convicted of burglary. The men repo...
