Biker dies on RAT trail

A 72-year-old man died on the Ridgway Area Trails on Monday, after hitting a tree while riding his bike.

Douglas Seitz, who lived part-time in Ridgway and permanently in Arizona, was found unresponsive by another biker on the Big Cheese trail on Monday afternoon.

Though it’s unclear exactly when the accident happened, Ouray County Deputy Coroner Glenn Boyd said he started biking around 11:30 a.m. and his GPS unit stopped moving around noon. He wasn’t found until 3:45 p.m.
