August 19, 1971 – Eight-year-old Lisa Denise Hill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl V. Hill, Route 1, Ridgway, became the first traffic fatality this year in Ouray County when killed while crossing Highway 550 near their home north of Ridgway.
