Transportation officials have opened up U.S. Highway 50 between Gunnison and Montrose for travel, to cars traveling east and west, as the northern route across Colorado’s mountains remains closed.

Repeated mudslides in Glenwood Canyon have caused extensive damage to I-70, following last year’s wildfires that stripped the surrounding mountains from vegetation. Monsoonal rains have brought precipitation to the area, which triggered the mudslides covering the highway with rocks and mud.
