How one local resident painted with a lot of Grit
Robert “Bob” DeJulio was one of many locals who worked on the classic western movie, “True Grit,” in 1968. He was a “sign painter” when he got the gig of his life turning the little ranching town of Ridgway into Ft. Smith, Arkansas, with paint.
Bob, now 90 years old, lives in Montrose. When “True Grit” came his way in 1968, Bob was lettering signs by hand in those pre-computer days. Painting western watercolors was his passion, but sign painting paid the bills.
