May 6, 1971 – Reorganization to combine the Ouray and Ridgway school districts was defeated Tuesday by only 50 votes, 258 to 208, in one of the heaviest school elections in either Ouray or Ridgway history. A total of 466 votes were cast, including absentees. 293 votes in Ouray, and Ridgway had a total of 173 ballots cast. The question carried in Ouray, with 167 in favor and 126 against reorganization.
