When I moved to Colorado from the Midwest, I was eager to see some new birds for my Colorado list. I wanted to see waterfowl, especially ducks.
At first, I could not understand why one of the mergansers seen in the area was listed as “common.” It seemed like it took me a long time before I saw this species at Ridgway Reservoir, so how common could it be?
