Aided by snow, fire near Silverton fully contained
A wildfire burning west of Silverton was fully contained Tuesday, aided by this week’s winter storm that dropped a foot of snow in some areas of the San Juan Mountains.
The Ice Fire had burned 596 acres as of Wednesday, a number that has held steady the last few days as strong winds and warm temperatures gave way to rain and snow. A Type 3 federal incident management team turned management of the fire back over to local managers with the San Juan National Forest on Monday.
