Two-term Democratic Rep. Barbara Mcl achlan of Durango faces political newcomer Marilyn Harris, a Republican from Pagosa Springs, in a battle to retain her seat in the state house.

Mclachlan is a former journalist and 20-year high school English and journalism teacher at Durango High School. After teaching, she worked as a college consultant. She currently serves as the chair of the House Education Committee.
