Ouray voters asked to extend flume tax
Ouray city residents are being asked to extend a property tax that pays for projects designed to protect homes and businesses from flood damage.
The so-called flume tax is a 2.477 mill levy that was originally put into place in the 1980s after a major flood in 1982 caused significant flood damage and required the city to enlarge its two flumes, Portland and Cascade. Voters renewed the tax in 1999, and it’s currently scheduled to sunset at the end of the year.
