When I lived in Indiana, Common Nighthawks were quite common. This is not true today.

My I would go to one of our shopping centers to watch them at dusk to get their evening meal. The parking area at the shopping center had pole lights and the insects would fly around the lights so the Nighthawks would open their wide mouths and the insects would fly in. Presto, meals gotten before dark!
