Despite a few, strong community prevails

Your recent article on the KOA campground and county lodging limits brought to mind a book I read nearly 3o years ago. In it the historian Arthur Schlesinger Jr. lamented the lack of social cohesion in the United States. Referring to one of the mottos on the Great Seal of the United States, “E Pluribus Unum” (”Out of Many, One”), Professor Schlesinger wrote (I’m paraphrasing here), “The trouble with this country is that there’s too much Pluribus and not enough Unum.”
