A couple who lived part time in Ouray were killed last week in Florida after police say the wife shot her husband , then turned the gun on responding officers who fatally shot her.

A couple who lived part time in Ouray were killed last week in Florida after police say the wife shot her husband , then turned the gun on responding officers who fatally shot her.
In a statement, Ormond Beach police identified the woman as Deanne Marie Owsianiak, 55, and her husband as David Alan Owsianiak, 56.
Police said they were called on the afternoon of March 26 to a report that a woman had shot a man and still had the firearm. Witnesses said the two were fighting in the Hali fax River over a gun, and that only one person was moving in the water and it appeared the woman had shot the man, according to a police report.
Once they arrived, officers gave commands to the woman, who turned the gun toward them and fired in their d irection. Five of the officers on scene returned fire.
The husband and wife were pronounced dead at the scene. None of the officers was injured. The five officers who fired thei r weapons were placed on administ rative leave, which is standard practice in officer-involved shootings.
The Owsianiaks were retired first-responders who spent most of their careers in Chicago, with David working with the Chicago Fire Department and Deanna working as a Chicago city officials noted in a news release that David Owsianiak served as the keynote speaker for the Ouray Police Department’s an nual Patriots Day tribute last September. He was called upon to assist in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York City.
