SMPA to benefit from renewable plan
Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association’s recent announcement that it will build a series of solar and wind projects to help replace the power produced by New Mexico and Colorado coal plants it plans to close portends good things for San Miguel Power Association customers.
The Westminster-based company’s decision will allow rural cooperatives like SMPA to generate more renewable power locally while possibly reducing customers’ rates, SMPA spokesman Alex Shelley said.
