After years of work, Ouray County has a new set of rules requiring new homes to be more wildfire-resistant.

The Ouray County commissioners unanimously approved the new land-use codes governing wildfire mitigation at their meeting Tuesday, after a third public hearing held by commissioners and numerous public hearings previously held by the planning commission. The new rules were a top priority for the planning commission in 2019 and consumed much of the board’s time.
